The NFL will release the full 2024 schedule on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET, according to media reports on Wednesday. Teams had been told informally that Thursday would be the release day but no reason was given for the delay in a league memo Wednesday afternoon, according to Sports Business Journal. Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice president of media distribution, wrote in the memo that more details about the plan are expected in the coming days, Sports Business Journal reported. One explanation could be determining which games would be set for Dec. 25, which this year falls on a Wednesday. The league in late March changed its stance to allow playing Christmas Day games if the holiday was a Tuesday or Wednesday. The four teams involved would play in a doubleheader the preceding Saturday. Another possibility is the delayed release allows teams to better prepare for such a highly anticipated day with promotion on social media tied to single-game ticket sales. Or, the NFL could be stretching what is a one-night event into multiple days with game details staggered across multiple days, as the NFL draft has evolved. The teams and their fans already know the opponents on their home and road schedules but not the order, dates and times. Locked in are five international games for five teams, with most dates and all times to be determined: In Sao Paulo, Brazil, Green Bay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Sept. 6; London, Minnesota Vikings vs. TBD, Chicago Bears vs. TBD and Jacksonville Jaguars vs. TBD; Munich, Germany, Carolina Panthers vs. TBD. Super Bowl LIX is Feb. 9, 2025 at the Superdome in New Orleans. —Field Level Media

Stephanie Frappart will referee the crucial World Cup clash between Germany and Costa Rica, where she will become the first female to take charge of a game at the men s tournament in its 92-year history.
Frappart will be in the middle for the Group E encounter at Al Bayt Stadium on Thursday, in which both teams can still qualify for the knockout stage in Qatar.
She was one of three female referees selected as part of the pool for the World Cup in May, along with Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan.
Frappart is no stranger to making history in the international game, having also been the first woman to officiate a men s World Cup qualifying match in March 2021 between the Netherlands and Latvia.

Diego Simeone has demanded his players give their all to get Atletico Madrid s season back on track but admitted they are competing well and have the desire after being knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
Goals in each half from Adnan Januzaj and Alexander Sorloth were enough to consign the Rojiblancos to a 2-0 defeat at Reale Arena, their seventh loss in their last 12 games in all competitions.
It means that it has been four seasons since Atletico reached the quarter-finals of the Copa dey Rey, having not done so since the 2017-18 campaign.
It is the second time in six days that Atletico have been eliminated from a cup competition, having lost 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao in the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana last week in Saudi Arabi…
Lautaro Martinez is delighted to be delivering success for Inter and says the arrivals of Antonio Conte, Romelu Lukaku and a new system have inspired his outstanding form.
Argentina international Martinez has scored 13 goals in 19 games across all competitions for the Nerazzurri this season, already trumping his tally of nine strikes in his debut 2018-19 campaign.
The 22-year-old s goals have fired Inter to the top of Serie A, a point clear of Juventus after 14 matches.
Martinez came into the campaign full of confidence after netting twice at the Copa America, yet he suggests life back at Inter would still have been tough had Luciano Spalletti remained at the helm, preferring a formation with a lone striker.
Instead, Spalletti and captain Mauro Icardi de…

Sadio Mane has become the latest big name to quit European football for the Saudi Pro League as he joins Al-Nassr from Bayern Munich.
The 31-year-old Senegal forward spent just a single season in Germany having moved to Bayern from Liverpool last summer and now departs for a reported £34million.
Mane struggled for form and during a tough season he suffered an injury that ruled him out of the 2022 World Cup and was fined and suspended by Bayern after a training ground bust-up with team-mate Leroy Sane.
He has now completed a move to Saudi Arabia, where he will team up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozovic at Al-Nassr, having also been linked with Al-Ahli and a reunion with former Liverpool team-mate Roberto Firmino.

David de Gea is no stranger to scrutiny at Old Trafford.
There were serious concerns over De Gea when he was lured to Manchester United by former boss Alex Ferguson as a lean 20-year-old goalkeeper in 2011.
De Gea, though, answered questions about his physique – the Spaniard repaying Ferguson s faith and going on to win a Premier League title, as well as FA Cup, Europa League, EFL Cup and Community Shield silverware.
He cemented himself as one of the world s best keepers. However, those concerns have emerged again and they are growing louder following his horror show in Sunday s 3-1 FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea.
It was a Wembley nightmare for De Gea, who was unable to keep out Olivier Giroud s effort in the final minute of first-half stoppage time.…
Kylian Mbappe would be taking on a huge responsibility if he becomes the new France captain, after Hugo Lloris retired from international football.
That is the verdict of Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier, who steered clear of either recommending the role to Mbappe or putting any pressure on national coach Didier Deschamps.
At the age of 24, Mbappe has already won 66 caps for Les Bleus, scoring 36 goals in the process.
He won the World Cup in 2018 and scored a hat-trick against Argentina in the 2022 final but painfully finished on the losing team.
PSG striker Mbappe appears an obvious candidate, but he may not aspire to the captaincy, which Lloris held for 10 years.

Aston Villa have signed forward Danny Ings from Southampton for an undisclosed fee, the club announced on Wednesday.
Ings signed a three-year deal after completing his shock transfer, with Villa moving swiftly to bring in attacking reinforcements ahead of captain Jack Grealish s apparently imminent departure.
Grealish is reportedly set to join Manchester City for £100million, but Ashley Young, Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and now Ings have all joined Villa in this window.
Ings reportedly cost Villa £30m, having decided not to renew his Southampton contract, which expires next year.
The 29-year-old netted 12 times for Saints in 29 Premier League appearances last term and added a sole international goal for England.
Upon confirming Ings signat…
Son Heung-min and Harry Kane starred as Tottenham inflicted a joint-worst home Premier League defeat on 10-man Manchester United, who were hammered 6-1 at Old Trafford.
The woeful Red Devils conceded four home first-half goals in the Premier League for the first time having taken a second-minute lead through Bruno Fernandes penalty.
Tanguy Ndombele levelled before Kane brilliantly set up Son to put Tottenham ahead before the favour was returned shortly after Anthony Martial was sent off, the Frenchman retaliating by striking Erik Lamela in the face after he appeared to be caught by a straw arm himself.
Son had a deserved second prior to the break, before the brilliant Serge Aurier added a fifth and Kane s late penalty meant the scoreline matched United s 6-1…
